Harry Blackstone Jr.

Harry Blackstone Jr.

Harry Blackstone Jr. (1934 - 1997) was an American stage magician, author and television performer who carried the Blackstone tradition to new audiences.

Harry Blackstone Jr. grew up inside one of magic’s most famous theatrical families and developed into a major performer in his own right. He brought the traditional language of grand illusion to modern theatres, television and Broadway with a polished, elaborate style.

His programs combined classic effects such as the Floating Light Bulb, Vanishing Birdcage, Dancing Handkerchief and Buzzsaw with a strong sense of pace and spectacle. He was celebrated by fellow magicians, receiving the Academy of Magical Arts’ Magician of the Year recognition twice.

Blackstone Jr. also wrote, taught and helped preserve the heritage of American stage magic. His career showed that classic illusion could remain vivid for a new generation without losing its theatrical scale. He died in 1997.
