Psi-Con Ruse

From the mind of Max Maven comes a brilliant, streamlined blend of mindreading, fortune‑telling, and pure mystery. This is an elegant, audience‑driven effect that feels impossible yet plays with total clarity.

A participant freely shuffles a deck of cards. You introduce a book on divination and explain your study of Cartomancy — the ancient art of reading fortunes with playing cards. An envelope is handed to the participant, containing a personalized reading prepared before you ever met.

The top five cards of the shuffled deck are inserted into the edge of the book for display. The participant chooses any one of the five — for example, the Four of Clubs. The remaining four cards are shown to be all different.

When the reading is removed from the envelope, it matches perfectly:
their personality traits, their fortune, and even their lucky card — the Four of Clubs.

A clean, direct miracle with no suspicious moves and a powerful emotional hook.
